Twitter For iPhone available free on iTunes

On April 9, 2010, Twitter announced through a blog post that the company had acquired Tweetie. Twitter stated that the acquisition stemmed from the lack of an official, Twitter-branded app. The blog post also stated that the app would be rebranded as “Twitter for iPhone” and would be released in the coming weeks.  Twitter For iPhone is available for free on iTunes named just Twitter (iTunes link). Twitter had acquired Tweetie about a month ago and I was waiting for it. Up until yesterday Tweetie was available for $4 dollars and now it’s free. There are no big changes from Tweetie except that it is free. But it’s not a bad thing Tweetie was named best twitter app on iPhone.

Some of the features of  Twitter For iPhone are:

  1. Handle multiple Twitter accounts
  2. Twitter for iPhone restores your entire UI if you quit or get a phone call
  3. Offline mode. Read, tweet, favorite, follow, save to Instapaper and more even when you don’t have a connection. Your actions will be synced as soon as you go back online
  4. Full landscape support
  5. Live-filter your tweet stream
  6. Post photos and videos, configurable to your own custom image host
  7. Improved compose screen with recent hashtags, @people picker, URL shortening and more
  8. Drafts manager that allows you to save or tweets automatically get saved if error while posting
  9. Link Twitter contacts to Address Book contacts
